MIRI: After 21 positive cases were reported in this division on Monday, Miri City Council (MCC) is tightening the standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance enforcement to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Mayor Adam Yii revealed this in a statement today. He said, “Miri is still a red zone with CMCO in place. Today, there were 10 positive cases and 11 positive cases at Subis. The situation was still very serious.”
MCC has released a notice to remind the public to join hands with authorities to fight the pandemic by strictly observing the SOPs like wearing face masks at public places, maintaining social distancing, sanitising hands regularly and refraining from travelling to rural areas and vice versa unless absolutely necessary.
This morning, Yii, accompanied by the council’s officers including Zaidi, head of Public Relations Section, Liaw Han Siong, head of Public Health Section, Zafirah, City Architect from Engineering Department and six enforcement personnel, visited the Central Market here to monitor the SOP compliance.
“I found most of the stalls at Central Market were open for business though the crowd was noticeably less than normal. This was basically due to the CMCO,” he said.
Yii and his officers later moved to the Open Air Market.
“Not many stalls were open. I was told that most of them were cleaning up and renovating their stalls before opening. Moreover, the upgrading works were not completely finished yet,” he said.
The mayor and his team also visited the Old Man Street at Persiaran Kabor.
The crowd was again much less than usual. But the SOPs were generally well observed with the exception of one table.
Yii said Miri City Council would compound SOP violators from now on.
