MIRI: Minister in charge of the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) Datuk Lee Kim Shin on Monday (Jan 11) reminded Mirians to be more vigilant against the Covid-19 pandemic.

The district was declared a red zone for the virus today.

Lee issued the reminder in a statement after attending a meeting with various relevant agencies in Miri on the Covid-19 situation in this district.

On the Covid-19 positive case at Rumah Ramba @ Rumah Emah Sungai Liam Baru,  Bakong Beluru, Lee said the Miri District Health office detected five individuals who attended the funeral ceremony held at Rumah Langi Pasai Siong in Sibu.

As a prevention measure to curb the spread of Covid-19, a 14-day lockdown was imposed on Rumah Ramba starting on Jan 10 (Sunday).

Lee, who is also Transport Minister, said that swab tests involving 199 individuals from the longhouse would be carried out tomorrow (Jan 12) by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

On the drastic increase in positive Covid-19 cases involving the ‘Bah Sayap’ Cluster reported in the district, Lee added that the officers from the Health Department were aggressively carrying out contact detection.

A total of 942 people had been identified to undergo Covid-19 swab tests.

Of that number, 614 people had been tested and 280 were negative.

Following the drastic increase in Covid-19 positive cases involving the Bah Sayap Cluster, DDMC told that Miri would be latest district in Sarawak to be declared a red zone after Sibu and Kuching.
