KUCHING: The Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) is in the process of setting up a Pembudayaan Al-Quran Committee through the MIS Action Plan (2022-2025) for the development of the Muslim community in the state.

Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunication (Utilities) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the committee would cover all matters related to the needs of the Muslim ummah.

“This includes the economy, socio-culture, mosques and many more. The cultivation of the Quran is also not overlooked in order to make it a cultural element in appreciating and practising it.

“Every Muslim should make the Quran as a culture so that their self-esteem follows the requirements of Islamic law as narrated in the Quran,” he said at the Majlis Penangguhan Daurah Perdana Tajwid Bersanad Peringkat Negeri Sarawak Tahun 1443H/2022M at Masjid Darul Hana on Sunday (June 26).

He stated that the MIS has always been concerned about the progress and ways to strengthen Al-Quran education in Sarawak.

“That is why MIS through the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has always planned and organised beneficial programmes to ensure the development of the Quran in the state continues to grow and attract the interest of Muslims here.

“In MIS’ effort to produce more quality Qaris and Qariahs, a total of six supervisors along with 24 MIS al-Quran teachers have been appointed,” he said.

A total of 500 participants were involved in the Daurah Perdana Tajwid Bersanad Peringkat Negeri Sarawak Tahun 1443H/2022M which took place on June 25-26 organised by JAIS, Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia Sarawak, State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS), and Darul Hana Mosque Management Committee.

Also present were JAIS Director Datuk Khalidi Ibrahim, LAKMNS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Abang Abdul Wahab Abang Julai and others.
