BAU: A diploma in office management student at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Samarahan Mellanie Meek, 19, has emerged winner of the Miss Aeon 2019 title.

This Kampung Daun, Singai lass defeated nine other contestants in the finals held at Redeems Centre on Sunday night.

The competition held in conjunction with Aeon Gawai Celebration 2019 was graced by Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Harry Henry Jinep.

With the victory, Mellaine received RM500 in cash, a crown, trophy, sash, and hampers.

First and second runner-up went to Hon Ying Ying, 20, from Kampung Raso, Lundu and Elliza Suezina Ekson, 20, from Kampung Sinibong, Singai respectively.

Ying Ying received RM300 cash and a trophy, while Elliza received RM200 cash and a trophy.

Harry officiated at the event which was also attended by Redeems president Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie and Aeon Co. (M) Berhad chairman Datuk Iskandar Saruddin.

The celebration started with a gotong-royong, followed by a cooking competition, colouring contest and traditional games in the afternoon.

Among the activities held in the evening were a fashion show by “Kanak-Kanak Celik Aeon”, performances by Bidayuh singers Tino and Sharon, cultural dance performances, and a presentation of donations to single mothers.

Iskandar said Aeon is grateful to be able to be part of a rich heritage and the Gawai celebration.

“We at Aeon will continue to aspire and strive to integrate ourselves into the local culture and to further build our relationship with the community as we will always do our best to work alongside the locals to honour and preserve their culture and traditions,” he said.
