The 61-year-old victim returned home by himself one day after he was reported missing.

BETONG: An elderly man who was reported to have gone missing since Wednesday (Sept 22) while fishing at Batu Lintang, Layar has returned home safe and sound.

A spokesman for the State Fire Department operations centre said the 61-year-old man reached home around 8pm on Thursday (Sept 23) while rescuers were deciding whether or not to postpone the search for him.

The initial search for the man started around 6pm within a 500-metre radius upstream of Batu Lintang.

Due to nightfall and rainy weather, the team had to postpone the search for their own safety.

As the rescuers were discussing with longhouse residents on continuing the search the next day, the man walked into the kitchen of the longhouse surprising everyone. Firemen from Betong station then called off the search.

On Sept 22, the man went fishing around 4pm. When he did not return home a decision was made to look for him.
