KAPIT: The body of a teenage girl reported missing in a boat capsizing incident on Tuesday (May 30) has been found this morning (June 1).
A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim, 17-year-old Linsa Empih Melin, was discovered about 2 kilometres from where the boat had capsized.
On the third day of the search, the victim’s family contacted the rescuers and informed them that Linsa’s body had been found around 10am.
Rescuers then went to the scene to retrieve her body and bring it back to the search and rescue (SAR) control post.
The body was later handed over to the police to be transported to the hospital for a post-mortem.
Following that, the search operation concluded at 11.17am, and the team departed back to their station.
Last Tuesday, Linsa and her family were aboard a boat, travelling from Kapit town to Rumah Geramong Nanga Sipoh, Mujong Tengah, before the tragic event occurred.
Their boat later capsized due to strong currents and being overloaded.
Six men, three women, and four children managed to swim to safety and reach the shore.
Unfortunately, Linsa was reported missing, and the authorities were quickly alerted for SAR assistance.
