BINTULU: The body of a young man who fell into Sebiew River last Saturday (Feb 4), was recovered yesterday (Feb 5).

A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim, identified as Billy Mathew, 20, was spotted by the public some 100 metres downstream from the jetty where the victim fell.

Rescuers who were alerted to the finding around 5.10pm rushed to the scene.

The victim’s body was later brought to the search control post before being handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.

Last Friday (Feb 3), at around 2pm, the victim left the house to his workplace but failed return home after work.

The next day, the victim’s family were informed by their neighbour that Billy’s belongings were found on the jetty.

An initial search effort was carried out by the victim’s family before they lodged a missing person’s report.

The body taken to the search control post to be handed over to the police for further action.
