Cherurai washes her feet as she safely returns to her longhouse.

SELANGAU: An elderly woman who was reported missing after failing to return home from a fishing trip on Saturday, has been found safe and sound.

Cherurai Mukan, 74, was found by a member of the public at around 8.30 am today (Jan 28).

Cherurai drinks a glass of water while being surrounded by her family.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that she was discovered in an oil palm plantation about 5km from her last location.

Rescuers went to the scene and brought Cherurai back to her longhouse.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation ended once the woman returned safely to her family.

On Saturday, Cherurai reportedly left through the back door of her longhouse with fishing equipment around 2.15 pm to go to an estuary behind Tr Samuli, Sungai Tau.

Concerns arose when longhouse folks realised that she did not return home by 5.30 pm. Residents from four longhouses initiated a search for her behind the longhouse and around an oil palm plantation, but their efforts proved futile.
