LUNDU: An elderly woman who was reported missing since Thursday morning was found alive inside a septic tank behind Lundu Multipurpose Hall today (July 2).

A spokesman for the State Fire Department operations centre said the victim identified as Fatimah Mohamad, 62, was found by villagers around 2.20pm.

“She was found alive inside a septic tank behind Lundu Multipurpose Hall.

“Firemen who were alerted rushed to the scene and rescued the victim out from the tank.

“She is safe but in weak condition. The emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) unit brought the victim to Sampadi Health Clinic for further treatment,” the spokesman said.

Earlier, Lundu police chief DSP Damataries Lautin said the victim’s child visited her home at No 48, Kampung Sampadi and found that she was nowhere to be seen.

Initial search efforts within a 1km radius from the victim’s house by residents were not successful, prompting authorities to launch a search and rescue (SAR) operations.
