SIBU: A timber contractor who was found dead in Ulu Sungai Melatai in Kapit after he was reported missing three days earlier, had most probably committed suicide.

Kapit OCPD deputy Supt Freddy Bian said the body of the 46-year-old victim, Kenek Antok, a Kenyah from Long Dungan, Belaga was found hanging by a steep cliff by a search and rescue (SAR) team at 4.20pm on Thursday.

“The deceased was believed to have hung himself by tying the root of a tree on his neck before trying it to a tree,” he said when contacted today.

“The body had been sent to Kapit Hospital at 8am this morning,” he said, adding that initial investigation revealed that there was no sign of a struggle or injuries.

The case has been classified as sudden death. A post-mortem was carried out today.

On April 30, the victim was with a team of 10 workers who went to Ulu Sungai Melatai forests to mark timber logs.
