KUALA LUMPUR: The Sarawak athletics squad completed their campaign in Sukma with five golds, four silvers and six bronze.

They finished third overall behind Johor and Sabah in the four-day meet at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium here that ended on Sunday (Sept 18).

On the final day of the competition, the camp captured another gold and silver to achieve their five gold target.

The first gold medal from the camp was struck by Jonah Chang Rigan in the men’s shot put category with a throw of 16.65 metres (m).

The second gold was obtained through the women’s javelin throw category which saw Sarawak javelin ace Ng Jing Xuan hurling the spear to 43.45m in her first attempt to seal the win in style.

The athletics camp also secured gold in the women’s 400m hurdles through Mandy Goh Li, wrapping up the race with a time of 1:01.49s.

‘Amazing’ Grace Wong Xiu Mei also amazed the crowd in the women’s hammer throw category, emerging champion with a 59.01m throw.

Sarawak also notched another victory in the Games through the women’s pole vault event where team Sarawak’s Evelyne Tan Xie Yie took gold, having cleared 2.9 metres (m) in her second attempt.
