KUCHING: The St. Teresa’s Kuching Primary School and the St. Joseph’s Kuching Secondary School received grants from the Sarawak government via the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).

The financial assistance is part of the ‘Sarawak Missionary School Fund Assistance for 2023—Phase 2’ and was presented by Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

A ceremony to present the grants was held at the Satok constituency service centre at Jalan Kulas here today.

Ibrahim said the financial assistance is part of the Sarawak government’s efforts to ensure the development of mission schools as well as houses of worship under UNIFOR.

“This is our approach to fostering unity and social inclusivity in Sarawak by instilling the values of harmony and co-existence among the people.

“By having mutual understanding and respect, it will contribute towards the state’s development agenda, whereby we have seen successes in our economic transformation through the green economy,” he said.

Present to receive the grant on behalf of SMK St. Joseph’s Kuching was school principal James Chen Chun Hong, while SK St. Teresa’s Kuching was represented by schoolteacher Senah Jali.

During the same ceremony, the Satok assemblyman also presented minor rural project (MRP) grants to a total of 74 organisations, associations, and management committees in the Satok constituency.

Among them were a total of 16 neighbourhood watch committees (KRTs), nine friendly neighbourhood committees (KJMs), 17 village security and development committees (JKKKs), and six parent-teacher associations (PTAs).

Also receiving the grants were a total of 15 mosque and surau management committees, as well as eleven association bodies and non-government organisations (NGOs).

In light of this, Ibrahim commended the efforts by the grassroots organisations in Satok to develop the local community through their programmes and activities.

“I thank the organisations for assisting the state government to reach out to the community and smooth government service delivery.

“This also allows the community to become more vibrant and lead better lives by benefiting from policies made by the government,” he said.
