KUCHING: Preparations are being made to mitigate the impact of flash floods in Kampung Masjid, here.
The Central Police Station, led by its station chief ASP Ahmad Abang, took the initiative to engage the local community for the purpose.
“Monsoon season has begun with intermittent rain over the last few days in Sarawak.
“As precautionary measures to preempt flash floods, which is a normal phenomenon in low-lying areas coupled with extensive development projects ongoing within Kuching, residents are advised to be vigilant and alert to such potential incidents.
“The Central Police Station has begun engaging with local community leaders, especially in Malay villages located along Sungai Sarawak,” a spokesperson for the Kampung Masjid village security and development committee said.
The spokesperson said a briefing session was held on Wednesday on the actions that needed to be taken when flash flood occurs.
Also present were Penghulu Iskandar Landau and village chief Abang Lahop and other village representatives.
