DALAT: Volunteers Smartphone Patrol (VSP) will be introduced in Sekuau Resettlement Scheme starting in January next year.

Sibu Rural District Council member (SRDC) Councillor Henry Kanyan Vincent Rawing said Sekuau residents could register their mobile phone numbers in the VSP to enable them to become ‘police partners’ to curb crime in their area.

“The VSP will facilitate the filing of police reports in the event of any suspicious, unhealthy or criminal activity. In addition, all longhouse chiefs in Sekuau area must be the chief security persons in their respective areas after the VSP is implemented” he said, adding that there are 64 houses in Sekuau area.

He was speaking to reporters after a courtesy call on the new Dalat District Police chief, DSP Saga Chunggat, at Dalat District Police Headquarters (IPD) yesterday.

Kanyan, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth committee member, said various police-with-the-people programmes would be held in the resettlement scheme starting next year.

“Among them are a drug-free youth programme, service recognition ceremony, and police-community sports at Rumah Seliau in Nanga Tebalai and Sekuau,” he said.

“Everyone needs to work together to fight crime because it can happen to anyone regardless of place, time, age, race and gender. It is important that we all participate in fighting it.”

Also present during the courtesy call were members of Sekuau Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).
