Mobile vaccination reaches Penan settlement

KUCHING: The mobile vaccination team under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP) has reached the Penan settlement in Lusong Laku, Ulu Linau.

Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon said vaccination in the area began on Wednesday with Lusong Laku as the first destination.

“After the vaccination is completed in Lusong Laku, this mobile vaccine team will move to Long Abit, Long Kajang, Long Tanyit and Long Lidem by boat and also by road to these destinations.

“I am happy and grateful for the feedback from our residents here where they agreed and were prepared to take their Covid-19 vaccine jabs,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The assemblyman said according to the Health Ministry, there are about 800 residents from the Penan tribe in Ulu Sungai Linau who are eligible to be vaccinated.

“Let us all pray that the vaccination programme for our community in Ulu Linau can be implemented smoothly. Let’s all get the Covid-19 vaccine to curb the spread of the pandemic,” he said.

Earlier, he visited the Penan settlement in Lusong Laku, Ulu Linau along with Deputy Health Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang and Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.

“This vaccine rollout was implemented by the Kapit Division Health Office in collaboration with Belaga Health Clinic, Sungai Asap Health Clinic and Lusong Laku Health Clinic,” he said.
