MIRI: A parked car at a public library in Taman Tunku was severely damaged after it caught fire on Thursday.

Zone 6 fire chief Supt Law Poh Kiong who confirmed the incident, said no human casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

The Miri Central fire station deployed their Bravo team to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 6.40pm.

“Upon arriving, the team found that the vehicle parked at the library’s parking area was up in flames and proceeded to extinguish it.

“The flames were put out around 7.15pm and the vehicle was about 50 percent damaged,” he said.

Investigations found out that the car was allegedly set on fire by a 21-year-old disabled man.

According to the man’s mother, her son was believed to have been ridiculed by his friends while playing football at a field nearby.

It is said that the man could not stand the mockery and allegedly set the car on fire.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari confirmed that they have also received a report pertaining to the incident.
