THE coastal areas of Beting Maro need special attention from the State Government in to ensure sustainability for the local farmers.

Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor said that the agriculture sector must be modernised and commercialised through the utilisation of advanced technology to ensure effectiveness and to increase productivity.

He said the coastal community in Beting Maro is faced with the problem of developing the agriculture sector in the area and are in need of assistance.

“They need infrastructures such as road, irrigation and drainage systems, and also sea walls in order to open up new farming areas.

“I would like to suggest that the Rural Growth Center (RGC) in the Beting Maro constituency, especially the RGC in Beladin, to be upgraded into the Integrated Agriculture Development Project (IADP) complete with modern irrigation and drainage systems.

“With this effort, it is expected to double the agro-food output,” he said.

Razaili also suggested to the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development to develop Beting Maro into an agro-food hub or food basket.
