KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is planning to offer the diploma in early childhood education (DECE) via Teachers’ Training Institutes (IPG) and Public Institutes of Higher Learning (IPTA) for preschool teachers — including from private kindergartens — to attain the minimum academic qualification which will be enforced by 2020.
The MOE has taken note of concerns brought up by private kindergarten operators in a report in Sin Chew Daily (northern edition) on Dec 15 that a big number of principals haven’t obtained the minimum qualification yet.
“For this reason, the teacher is encouraged to increase their academic qualification gradually,” said Education director-general Datuk Dr Amin Senin, in a statement.
He said the Cabinet fixed this requirement in 2016 and it applies to everyone. – Bernama
