Molotov cocktail damages home

KUCHING: A molotov cocktail was tossed into the compound of a house in Kampung Beratok, Jalan Kuching-Serian here today.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said in the incident which occurred around 1.10am, the owner of house was getting ready for bed when he heard what sounded like firecrackers exploding from outside the house.

“He and his family rushed out to discover that the front area of the house was on fire,” he said in a statement today.

A police report was lodged after the fire was extinguished.

“Investigations at the scene found that there were five closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in front of the house.

“According to the family members, they do not have debts with loan sharks,” he said.

The estimated loss is around RM3,500 with damage to the glass doors and grills, as well as the cost of painting the burnt part of the wall.

“Investigations are underway,” he said.
