SIBU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) consumer affairs officers appointed in each parliamentary constituency nationwide will monitor the supply and prices of consumer goods at all times.

In giving the assurance, its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said as such the public must make complaints based on facts and not in general regarding supply issues or product prices.

He said that this was important as complaints of a general nature could not help the party determine whether an issue was happening or otherwise.

“KPDNHEP does welcome complaints from the consumers if there is a problem.

“That is why we provide seven channels for the consumers to make complaints and every complaint received will be followed up by KPDHNEP or price monitoring officers (PPH),” he said.

Nanta disclosed this at a media conference after visiting Chan Era Sdn Bhd warehouse in Jalan Ding Lik Kong here on Yesterday (July 22).

On the visit, the Kapit MP said that there was no problem with the supply of cooking oil in subsidised 1kg packs and non-subsidised 5kg bottles.

“One brand of cooking oil distributed from here retails at RM39 for a 5kg bottle. This is a good sign because the price of crude palm oil in the global market is currently down,” he said.

Nanta added that his ministry and Special Task Force on Jihad Against Inflation had requested that the industry players set a suitable price for cooking oil following the drop in the world price of crude palm oil.

“This should not be placed on the shoulders of the wholesalers only, but the refineries need to do the same so that the price of retail cooking oil also comes down,” he added.
