KUCHING: The monsoon phase is expected to shift beginning March 23 and will continue till the middle of May this year, according to the Meteorological Department in a press statement here yesterday.

Its spokesman said this shift is the signal that the east monsoon 2022/2023 period, which started since November 7 last year, is about to end.

He added that during the shifting period, the state will get lesser strong winds from various directions which will be conducive for thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds for a brief period.

The thunderstorms will usually occur during evening and early night in the west coastal areas and interiors in Peninsula Malaysia, western Sabah and the western and middle areas in Sarawak.

The people are advised to pay heed to any announcements made by the Department or they can also contact the department’s hotline at: 1-300-22-1638 for any inquiries.
