KUCHING: The commencement of the Monsoon transition phase is anticipated on September 19, extending through November.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) in a press release yesterday said the onset of this phase marks the end of the Southwest Monsoon, which began on May 15.

It stated that throughout the Monsoon transition phase, areas in the country would encounter light winds blowing from diverse directions, creating conditions favourable for thunderstorms which are accompanied by intense rainfall and strong winds occurring over a brief timeframe.

These events are more likely to happen in the late afternoon and early evening in most areas of the west coast and inland regions of the Peninsula, western Sabah, and western and central Sarawak.

This weather condition has the potential to cause flash floods and damage to weak structures.

The public is advised to be more vigilant during this period and always stay informed about weather forecasts and warnings issued by METMalaysia through the official website, the myCuaca mobile application, and the department’s official social media channels.
