A month-old infant and his mother are among the 12 flood victims evacuated in Marudi.

MIRI: A month-old infant and six children were among 12 flood victims evacuated from Rumah Vincent, Tanjung Opar in Baram on Saturday after their longhouse was flooded.

A team of Marudi firemen was immediately despatched to the scene to evacuate the victims after receiving an alert around 3.30pm.

According to Zone 6 fire chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, the longhouse is located about 60km from the Marudi fire station.

The team arrived by boat around 5pm to help evacuate the victims to the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Marudi Civic Centre.

Six children and a month-old infant were among 12 flood victims evacuated from a longhouse in Tanjung Opar.

Meanwhile, at the Darussalam Mosque PPS in Long Lama, as at 4pm on Sunday (Sept 5), the number of flood victims there has decreased to 52 from 10 families, compared to 66 victims that same day in the afternoon.

At the Marudi Civic Centre PPS, flood victims have increased to 32 from eight families, compared to 12 victims today (Sept 5) as at 4pm.

At some areas like Long Atip, flood waters have gradually receded while at other places in the interior Baram, flood waters remain unchanged.

In Marudi town, following continuous rainfall during the weekend, most of the roads were rendered impassable.
