KUCHING: A gymnasium, recreational park and a hawker centre are the latest additions to the Simunjan master plan.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg tasked Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo and Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri to find a suitable location for the new facilities to be built.

Abang Johari approved the latest addition yesterday after fielding suggestions from the crowd in a ‘Today for Tomorrow (T4T)’ townhall session in Gedong, Simunjan.

“We have to take care of our health and the best way to do that, according to medical professionals is to exercise.

“Hopefully we can build a gymnasium and a recreational park here for that so that all of us can take care of our health. We also hope that we can build a hawker centre” he said.

The chief minister said he will consult the local representatives to discuss the projects’ implementation, adding that the facilities could be put together into one centre.

He said Simunjan already has a master plan which includes a resettlement programme and a mini stadium.

“We are looking to build a resettlement area with houses that are reasonably priced and affordable.
He also announced that a mini training centre will be built in Simunjan to cater for locals.

He said the facility will come under the Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs), which is headquartered in Kuching.

“Trainees who have undergone basic training here will pursue further training in Kuching, where training facilities are complete and readily available,” he added.
