More affordable houses to be developed

KUCHING: There will be more development of affordable houses once the road network from Jalan Datuk Sulaiman to Kampung Segedup here is completed.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the road project is among the developments being implemented in Satok area, and hopefully it would be completed in two to three months time.

“It is important that an area continues to develop and transformed from time to time,” he said when presenting minor rural project (MRP) grants to eight organisations in Satok at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok headquarters today.

Abang Johari, who is also Satok assemblyman said that other major development projects in the area included upgrading of the Waterfront up to Jalan Satok, which would be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“With Satok going to be the main autonomous rail transit (ART) centre, the area will continue to see progress in the future,” he assured.

He said another development project was the building of Hikmah Exchange. When completed, it will house commercial centres and corporate offices.

The eight organisations that received the MRP grants totalling RM1.152 million today were Kuching Bandarsah Arts Association, SMV Matang Parent Teacher Association, Civil Defence Personnel Welfare and Recreation Club, SK Rakyat Haji Bolhassan Trust Board, Kuching Branch Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) Veteran Association, STA Ar-Razi Kuching Management Committee, Kampung Bandarshah Surau Trust Board and Kuching Community Leaders Cooperatives Berhad.

Also present were PBB Satok deputy chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, vice chairman Hilmy Othman and a political secretary to the chief minister, Abdul Samat Gani.
