KUCHING: Petra Jaya Health Clinic has started a ‘drive thru’ screening and sampling centre specifically for medical or frontline staff.

Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said such facilities would help to ease the testing workload at the Youth and Sports Complex which could then focus on testing the general public.

“We were informed by the head of the clinic that currently they are mainly concentrating on testing frontliners and staff who were in contact with Covid-19 positive patients,” he said on his Facebook posting.

He said currently the clinic, which carried out an average of 30 tests a day, was looking forward to increasing the capacity if needed.

“I encourage the setting up of more such facilities for the public as they are quick and can minimise human contact. Such facilities have been implemented in countries such as South Korea.”

Dr Yii added that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) had handed over 100 personal protective equipment (PPE) worth RM8,000 to the clinic so that the staff, especially those involved with testing and seeing the patients were protected.

“We hope this will help them as we show are utmost appreciation to all the frontliners who have served us tirelessly to protect and treat us,” he said.
