More essential items for longhouse residents

The GPS Marudi Youth team hands over the food supply to frontliners manning the roadblock at the Sungai Liam junction.

KUCHING: Additional supply of foodstuff and items comprising chicken, eggs, canned food and face masks had been distributed to the residents of Rumah Emah, Sungai Liam in Marudi.

Local Government Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said these were to complement the existing food supply assistance that was channelled by the Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee.

“This assistance is channelled as the period of the lockdown order at Rumah Emah longhouse has been extended to this Feb 8. I hope this will, to some extent, help the residents there.

“Thank you to all the members of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Marudi Youth who helped to distribute the aid up to the roadblock at the Sungai Liam junction,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Penguang said the team also distributed drinking water to the frontliners manning the roadblock at Rumah Apol, Sungai Liam, Sungai Entulang and Beluru.

The Marudi assemblyman thanked the Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Child Development Ministry for supplying assistance in the forms of powdered milk and diapers to children in need.

“I would also like to thank all the officers and staff of various agencies under the Beluru District Disaster Management Committee and the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee who have worked hard to help us during this challenging period.

“I request that we all keep abreast of the current development and always listen to instructions from the committee,” he said.
