KUCHING: DAP Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Kelvin Yii has been urged to fight for more allocation to upgrade the health facilities in Sarawak, including a new Tanah Puteh Health Clinic in Pending.

Sarawak United People Party (SUPP) Youth Central Secretary-General Milton Foo said that Dr Yii was the chairman of the Special Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, Science and Innovation Select Committee, hence, it was hoped that he could fight for more funds to address the issue.

“I hope he (Yii) can fight for more allocation for us, including to build a new clinic in Pending as the current clinic building situated at Jalan Kwong Lee Bank in Pending has a very limited space, including its car park area, and cannot accommodate the rising numbers of patients and needs in the constituency,” he said.

“There is also an urgent need to upgrade the health facilities, amenities and utilities of the health clinic to ensure the comfort of patients and medical officers and staff there,” he said in a statement.

On Yii’s recent announcement that he would be allocating some funds to upgrade the existing toilet facilities in Tanah Puteh Health Clinic, Foo said it was a part of the annual grant for MPs allocated by the federal government.

“This is part and parcel of the RM2 million annual allocation for MPs after DAP (as part of the Pakatan Harapan) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the federal government last year,” he added.
