KUCHING: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) hopes the federal government will allocate more funds to Sarawak to conduct Native Customary Rights (NCR) land survey in Budget 2020.

Its deputy president Engga Unchat said there were still huge areas to cover and the survey needed to be sped up.

“We urge the government to seriously look into the basic needs of Sarawak, especially in rural areas where there are still seven poor districts in Sarawak,” he said.

He also hoped adequate funds would be allocated to the agriculture sector for training and for reviving all agriculture training centres in the country.

“The reason is because Sarawak is still so backward in agriculture,” he said.
Engga also hoped that special funds would be given to students from lower income groups in order for them to cope with the huge fees at higher learning institutions.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng is expected to table Budget 2020 in Parliament on Oct 11.
