KUCHING: Many more programmes can speed up Sarawak’s digital transformation, accelerate public awareness, and stimulate interest in adopting new technology.

Serba Dinamik Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Abdul Kadier Sahib said such efforts could better equip the community with skills and knowledge relevant to future work.

“This transformation is very important because in the future a lot of labour-based work will be transformed to high-value technology-based work which is referred to as Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0),” he said at the virtual closing ceremony of HckWknd: Mobile Apps Competition and Learn Thru Game Coding 2021 via Zoom and Facebook Live on Saturday (Oct 30).

He said they looked forward to organising HckWknd again next year with more impactful improvements.

“It is our great hope that everyone will continue to give support to this initiative to realise the digital economy aspirations and goals of the Sarawak government,” he said.

He said the HckWknd programme, which was organised by Serba DigitalX in collaboration with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), had been running for five months.

Abdul Kadier said about 50 participants from various schools and universities in Kuching and Kota Samarahan had participated in this competition, in addition to some international participation from Indonesia and Hong Kong.

“This is part of our efforts to focus on teaching and learning based on new technology and applications which can help participants and students to strengthen knowledge and to motivate them to keep pace with the latest development of digitalisation. This, in turn, will leapfrog our economy,” he said.

He hoped such interest from the community could grow in the future, believing that the programme would nurture more young talented programmers in mobile application technology and help encourage technology entrepreneurship among the younger generations.

“This program is divided into two categories, namely junior and senior categories. For the senior category, the assignment given for all participants was to develop a prototype level application, whereas the junior category participants were assigned to develop a wireframe concept.

“We hope with this programme, all participants will continue to practise mobile application development and apply what they have gained beyond the education process or ‘outside the classroom’ and come up with something practical that can be commercialised,” said Abdul Kadier.

The Mobile Apps Competition was further divided into two categories – Novice Category and Product category.
