KUCHING: The proposed mixed development project to be developed by UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA) and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) will further strengthen the relationship and create synergy between the Federal Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Medac) and the Sarawak government.

Federal minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said through such joint ventures, this would also open up more business opportunities for locals.

He said it is the aim of the ministry to assist entrepreneurs, and hoped that through this development, it would be successful and benefit Sarawakian entrepreneurs.

“I therefore urged UDA and SEDC to help more bumiputeras in the city so that they can get involved in entrepreneurship,” he said at the memorandum of agreement (MoA) signing ceremony for the joint venture at Grand Margherita Hotel here yesterday.

He said it is important to provide business opportunities and space for bumiputeras, especially those in the B40 group in the city.

“This is the first step that UDA has shown and after that, I am confident that SEDC can also show UDA the other opportunities and space throughout Sarawak, provided with the permission of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.”

In another development, he said in line with the aspiration of the Sarawak government to achieve its digital economy, he had spoken to UDA to provide a digital business space such as Lowyat in Kuala Lumpur.

He said such digital business space should also be provided throughout the country, including Sabah and Sarawak.

On the mixed development project, it would comprise the construction of two 21-storey apartment blocks, equipped with a gymnasium, swimming pool, a playground, shop offices and a 12-storey hotel with 200 rooms with modern facilities.

The project, which sits on a 12.6-acre land, will be located near the Pending Heights industrial area.

UDA is now an agency under Medac, and it specialises in real estate and property.
