KUCHING: The latest air shipment of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines for Sarawak arrived here yesterday (May 12).

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this was the 12th shipment since the beginning of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) at the end of February.

“Looking forward to working closely with the Health Ministry (MOH) and Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) Kuala Lumpur to accelerate large number of increase in vaccine deliveries to Sarawak through our rightful share under PICK, AstraZeneca opt-in programme, and the Sarawak government’s self-purchases from next month onwards,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday night.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor said Sarawak had the ability to achieve up to 80,000 vaccinations per day with MOH and private healthcare facilities.

Barring disruptions in the vaccine supplies, he expressed confidence in the completion of the vaccination process for all eligible Sarawakians by August,

“As of May 11, only 1,124,241 Sarawakians registered for vaccination. Let’s encourage those who are hesitant to register now.

“Otherwise, there is no reason for Kuala Lumpur to give and other countries to sell more vaccines to Sarawak other than for those who are registered,” said Dr Sim.
