THE safety features along the main road in the Bukit Semuja Constituency need to be improved further.
Bukit Semuja assemblyman, John Ilus, said this concerned road safety, especially from Simpang Gedong to Kampung Kuala, from the junction of Kampung Muhibbah to Kampung Belimbing and from Bulatan Kakai to Tebekang.
He pointed out that signboards and speed breakers were needed in strategic places.
“For example, before and after both flyovers (Serian 1 and Serian 2), traffic lights, at every P-Turn, U-turn and intersections at villages or residential areas. The same goes for the installation of the guard rails in strategic places.”
John also requested for the construction of a pedestrian bridge and a bus stop along Pan Borneo Highway (at the Serian to Simunjan junction), which had been approved, to be implemented immediately.
He said this in his debate speech on the motion of appreciation to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s address at the DUN Sitting yesterday.
John also pointed out the list of about 806 household applicants had been forwarded to the Ministry Of Utility for the late application under the Rural Electrification Programmes.
“The applications come from the 39 villages in Bukit Semuja. Out of these, only 151 from one village, which is Kampung Riih Mawang, are ongoing or under implementation but for the
rest of 38 other villages, the number varies.
“From Kampung Rasau, there are 65 applications, Kampung Sorak Dayak 53, Kampung Belimbing A 47, Kampung Bedup Longgo 47, Kampung Merian Bedup 40, Kampung Triboh 36, Kampung Tangga Mawang, Kampung Slabi Plaman, Kampung Labak Tungan, Kampung Koran Mawang and Kampung Bedup Sg. Buluh (20 and above households), while others are having less.
“As for the street lighting, a total of 457 units are required through the applications that have been received and forwarded to the ministry concerned and 2754 units of water tanks are required,” he added.
