KUCHING: Betong Division will be getting more telecommunication towers to boost coverage in the area.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government, through Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), had identified 36 new locations to set up the towers.
He said that with the towers in place, the people of Betong would be able to enjoy better internet speed through its broadband capabilities.
“We also have 32 locations, which the new telecommunications towers are being constructed at. Nine of them will be completed in the near future, while another four have been completed.
“We also opt to install a base transceiver station (BTS) with better signal reception so that the day-to-day operations in terms of conducting business can be done faster,” he said when officiating at the Rindok Digital programme in Pusa, Betong yesterday.
Abang Johari said Betong already had 68 percent broadband coverage and would be improved in the future through an added stimulus plan.
“In one or two years’ time, we will increase the number of telecommunication towers here so that connection will be faster and the daily operations can be done swiftly,” he added.
Earlier, Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor in his speech requested that the state government look into improving the digital infrastructure in the area.
He said that more telecommunication towers were needed for the people to enjoy the services offered by the state government in terms of e-commerce and tourism.
