KUCHING: More than 2,000 households in the state yesterday received Astro NJOI decoders through the eKasih programme.

Gracing the event, Public Works Minister, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusuf said that the recipients should fully utilise the channels provided by the NJOI decoders and benefit from them.

“If utilised properly, they can help our children to learn and, at the same time, disseminate information more quickly,” said Fadillah in his speech at the presentation of the Astro NJOI decoders to the recipients at Kampung Malaysia Jaya multipurpose hall, Petra Jaya.

He also urged more corporate bodies to come forward and contribute to the society, especially in the rural areas.

Astro Chairman, Tun Zaki Tun Azmi, in his speech, said that NJOI was the first free satellite television service in Malaysia with access to over 48 television and radio channels.

“We are honoured to give away more than 2,000 sets of NJOI decoders to the members of eKasih in Sarawak to enable accessibility to quality information, education and entertainment,” said Zaki.

He disclosed Astro had provided 38,000 NJOI decoders to Malaysians under the eKasih programme.

NJOI Is a free satellite television service airing the best local and international programmes with a total of 28 television channels and 20 radio channels.

It also provides a range of programmes including interactive educational programmes with its Astro Tutor TV channel for students sitting for their UPSR, PT3 and SPM.

Also present were Senator Dr Zaiedi Suhaili, Assistant Minister for Early Childhood Education and Family Development, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and Tupong State Assemblyman, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
