More than RM500k in contrabands seized

MIRI: Sarawak Marine Police Region Five seized contraband cigarettes and beer worth RM549,192.60, inclusive of unpaid duties, here on Thursday morning. Sarawak Marine Police Region Five commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said the  seizure was made following a raid on a warehouse  located in Senadin, Kuala Baram at 8.30am.

“The raid, known as ‘Ops Landai’, was made after one week of surveillance on the location,” he said in a statement yesterday.He added that upon arrival at the location, the team waited for two hours before ambushing the warehouse. The enforcement team discovered that the contrabands were concealed with green sacks in the warehouse. A total of 720 boxes of beer estimated to be worth RM288,912.60, and 1,763 cartons of cigarettes worth RM260,280 were seized.

“Total seizure is estimated at RM549192.60 inclusive of tax,” said Shamsol. The seized items would be handed over to the police for further action. The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) of the Customs Act 1967.
