MUKAH: Efforts are underway to open up additional Covid-19 immunisation centres here towards expediting the vaccination process in view of the low rate of people having been inoculated so far.

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo said health clinics at Bukut Junction, Jalan Mukah-Selangau, and at Kuala Balingian had been proposed for the purpose.

According to him, a total of 18,865 people here had registered for the Covid-19 vaccine.

However, he said about 10,000 people had received the first dose of the vaccine, while about 4,000 had received the second dose to date.

“Based on the total number of people who had registered for vaccination, I am very worried that the targeted herd immunity may be hard to achieve by August,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Wednesday (June 23).

Earlier he visited the Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) at Dewan Suarah Mesra here.

He revealed that 94 percent of senior citizens aged 60 years and above had been vaccinated while 93 percent of frontliners had received their jabs.

Yussibnosh thanked frontliners who were involved in the vaccination process and hoped that it would proceed smoothly.

He urged the people here to get vaccinated in order to achieve herd immunity in the constituency.
