KUCHING: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) will be organising regular workshops and programmes through the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) in Sarawak.

deputy secretary-general (Policy) of KKMM Shakib Ahmad Shakir revealed this during the closing ceremony of a three-day “Script to Media and Varicam/EVA1 Cinematic Camera” workshop held from March 17 at the Finas Sarawak branch here.

The proposed programmes, he said, included the development of the Digital Content Fund grant framework, the “SineSKRIN” project to empower youth incubation programmes and the Cross FIT (Film Industrial Training) programme to recognise the industry talents that glorify the country’s name.

“KKMM Minister Gobind Singh Deo made an official visit to Kuching on January 14 and he pointed out that the contents of the creative industry in Sarawak must be enhanced,” Shakib said.

“A Finas pitching session to the fund development will be held often in Sabah and Sarawak to encourage art enthusiasts to produce more films with creative and quality contents,” he said.

Shakib added the Intra-Cinema programme was developed to screen quality films made by youths and that the Chat with SKRIN programme was organisd to assemble young players in the knowledge exploration programme.

Next year, the Malaysia Creative Industry Xchange (MCIX) website would be launched and it will be the industry data collection hub, he said.

Pointing out that the creative arts industry played an important role in presenting specialities in the state; Shakib added that Finas had already started looking for Sarawakians involved in the creation of contents.

“The ‘Script to Media and Varicam/EVA1 Cinematic Camera workshop’ in Kuching was a great effort in helping the creative arts industry, especially in the production field by acquiring  knowledge in script writing and the use of increasingly sophisticated cameras,” he said.

Among the guests present at the closing ceremony were Finas CEO Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri, senior assistant director of Finas Sarawak branch Maffizan Saupie and Sarawak Creative Industry Advisor Ghazali Jeman.
