MIRI: Putrajaya recognises the vital role played by community policing in crime prevention and will thus rope in more youths to participate in the Voluntary Patrol Schemes, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (National Unity and National Wellbeing) Datuk Wira Dr Md Farid Md Rafik yesterday.

Speaking at a ‘ Jom Ronda’ programme held in Krokop here on Saturday night with the Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS), he said, “Crime prevention is a collaborative effort by all of us and should not be shouldered by one particular entity alone. We can’t just put all the responsibilities on the police force alone.”

Dr Md Farid added that Putrajaya was concerned about the crime rate in the country and welcomed crime prevention programmes which involved the community.

At the event, Dr Md Farid pledged a RM20,000 allocation to the Miri Division Neighbourhood Area Committee (KRT) and RM5,000 each to its strategic partners, namely the Police, Miri Customs and the National Anti-Drugs Agency Miri branch (AADK).
