KUCHING: A poultry farm along Jalan Matang near Taman Sri Harmony here went up in flames causing the death of some 5,000 chicken.
The Fire and Rescue Department operations centre received a distress call at 7.11am on Sunday and promptly despatched firemen from Petra Jaya and Batu Lintang stations to the scene.
Upon arrival, the fire fighters found that the non-permanent structure at the poultry farm was completely destroyed by the fire. The poultry farm covers an area of 20 acres.
The blaze was finally brought under control at 8.25am.
A fireman was injured during the operation and was transported to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.
