Do you know that you can now buy Black Thorn Durian trees as well as the ever-popular Musang King Durian trees at the Bidayuh Mystique Festival 2022 being held at St Paul’s Parish Hall, Bunuk?

Desclaude Nguir, an employee of  Agrofarm Produce Enterprise, and his colleagues are manning his company’s stall at the hall.

“If we are talking about durians, the best durian trees we display here are the Musang King and the Black Thorn Durian trees.

Many locals are buying from us.

“We recommend these two breeds because of their high quality. People will be satisfied when they eat the fruits,” said the 40-year-old employee.

Apart from that, the prices also differ, depending on the breed and quality of the durians.

Desclaude said a Musang King Durian tree cost RM35.

“The Black Thorn Durian trees are the most expensive ones here. Each costs RM45 because it is a new breed and also the best.

“In Sarawak, if you buy a Black Thorn Durian, it costs around RM110 per kilogramme. Usually, it is sold in Padungan or in Sri Aman.

“If we look at the Musang King Durian, the fruit only costs RM50 to RM60 per kilogramme,” said the employee.

Desclaude also explained that both the Black Thorn and Musang King Durians tasted good.

“However, I prefer the Black Thorn Durian,” he confessed.

Agrofarm Produce Enterprise’s nursery is located at the Bengoh Resettlement Scheme (BRS). It is usually invited by the Agriculture Department Sarawak to exhibit and sell fruit trees including avocado and lime at any exhibition.

“Other than selling our trees physically at exhibitions, we also do our business online. We get orders from customers all over Malaysia.

“We also do cash on delivery as well, and also we deliver our products by bus, especially from Sibu to Miri and up to Lawas.

“If we post our trees to Malaya, we need to pack them carefully and take out the dirt. We also have to figure out how to make sure the trees are in good condition when they reach our customers across the sea,” added Desclaude.

Agrofarm Produce also received orders from other countries such as Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand and Singapore.

“I hope one day, we will be able to clone our own original breeds of durians from Sarawak. If we are able to do this, I am sure the people will love it.

“We need to expand and popularise our own original clone durians among our people so that they, too, can help promote them,” said Desclaude.
