MIRI: A 35 year-old woman and her boyfriend have been detained by the police for allegedly abusing her six year-old son.
Miri deputy police chief Supt Sabri Zainol said the woman and her 45 year-old companion were detained by Criminal Investigation department (CID) personnel yesterday following a report lodged by the boy’s biological father.
“The report was lodged by the boy’s father after he found injuries on his son’s body,” said Sabri.
It is understood that the boy’s mother and his biological father had not been living together for the past three years, while the victim has been under his mother care during the period.
The boy had also told his father that he was beaten by the ‘uncle’ who befriended her mother.
During the arrest, police seized two rattan sticks believed to have been used to beat the boy.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
