SIBU: Youth members of Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) are urged to motivate other members to be courageous, committed and action-oriented.

In making the call, chairman of MRC Sibu District penghulu Chua Hiong Kee said MRC needed courageous, committed and action-oriented leaders.

Chua (third left) hands over a certificate of participation to a Red Crescent youth member as Lam (second left), Dew (second right) and others look on.

“This is because leadership is vital to us if we are going to achieve our humanitarian services with maximum efficiency and create a brighter tomorrow,” he said when addressing the closing ceremony of a two-day 2019 MRC Sarawak Convention held at the centenary hall of SMK Sacred Heart here yesterday.

Chua said a good leader inspired others to have confidence in him while great leaders inspired others to have confidence in themselves.

“We are fortunate to have a perfect service organisation. We are proud to be members of the world’s largest voluntary organisation.

“The voluntarty services that we perform improve our problem- solving skills, higher functional ability, lower rates of depression and gives us an overall sense of self-satisfaction.

“So let us challenge ourselves to work harder, think bigger and show our true spirit of “To Service” commitment,” he said.

Saying that he was pleased to see the good response from the youth members to the convention, he added what had impressed him most   were not only the programmes but also the keenness of the youth members in learning.

Because of their attendance, they had learnt valuable lessons which would be of great importance not only to themselves but also to their Red Crescent district, Chua added.

Vice chairman of MRC Sarawak branch, John Lam and senior assistant of SMK Sacred Heart, Dew Ka Yee were among those present.
