Motorcyclist dies in collision with car

KUCHING: A 29-year-old motorcyclist died in a head-on collision with a car at Mile 12, Jalan Puncak Borneo yesterday.

The 4.30am accident occured near the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre when the motorcyclist allegedly swerved into the opposite lane.

The victim, identified as Mohd Nor Taib Pondi from the nearby Kampung Jawa, Jalan Semengok succumbed to serious injuries around 7.10am at the Intensive Care Unit of the Sarawak General Hospital.

He suffered serious injuries on the face and body.

The car, driven by a 30-year-old male, was heading towards Kota Padawan from Giam.

Meanwhile, another sedan car crash-landed into the bushes when he wanted to avoid ramming the crash site.

The motorcyclist was earlier rushed to the hospital by an ambulance from the Civil Defence Department.

Confirming this deputy district police chief DSP Merbin Lisa said a post-mortem was expected to be performed on the deceased at 9am today.

The drivers of both cars were reported to have escaped the accident unhurt.

The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act, 1987.
