Motorcyclist dies in crash

The motorcycle was dragged by a car after the motorcyclist was thrown into the middle of the road as a result of the collision with a lorry.

BAU: A motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle collision at KM12, Jalan Bau-Kuching last Saturday (Nov 21).

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident occurred around 1.20pm involving a lorry and a car travelling towards Bau and a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when the motorcyclist attempted to overtake several vehicles in front of him resulting in a head-on collision with the lorry.

“The victim identified Mohd Zulkarnain Jemat, 33, was then thrown into the middle of the road while his motorcycle was dragged by a car travelling behind the lorry,” he explained.

Alexson said that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Bau Hospital for post mortem.

Meanwhile, the lorry and car drivers aged 47 and 19, were unharmed in the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
