SRI AMAN: A motorcyclist was killed on the spot while his friend was injured in a collision with a lorry at KM12 Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching around 9.30am on Wednesday (Aug 11).

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the 31-year-old lorry driver claimed that the accident occurred due to a brake failure which caused him to swerve into oncoming traffic.

“Preliminary investigation at the scene found that the lorry was on the way from Sri Aman to Kuching and went out of control while dodging a vehicle in front which suddenly stopped.

“The lorry driver tried to apply the brakes but to no avail whichprompted him to swerve and enter the opposite lane, resulting in the collision with a motorcycle which was coming from Kuching,” he said.

Alexson said the victim, identified as Haderi Dee, 36, was confirmed dead at the scene by Sri Aman Hospital paramedics.

A pillion rider, Clement Rogers, 27, sustained serious injuries in the accident and is receiving treatment at Sri Aman Hospital.
