Motorcyclist killed, pillion rider sustain minor injuries

MIRI: A collision between a motorcycle and a lorry cost the life of a young rider while his female pillion rider escaped with light injuries.

In the accident at KM10 Jalan Taman Tunku, adjacent to the Everwin Supermarket here, on Yesterday (June 28) the motorcyclist aged 21, died on the spot.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the motorcyclist was heading towards his home in Taman Tunku when the collision happened.

“We were informed about the incident at 5.09pm,” he said today (June 29).

He said a preliminary investigation revealed that both vehicles were heading towards the same direction. The lorry, upon reaching a junction suddenly made a left turn causing the motorcycle to rear-end the lorry.

The victim ended up underneath the lorry.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
