KUCHING: Failure to comply with the red traffic light signal resulted in the death of a labourer at Jalan Tun Razak traffic light intersection last Sunday.

The fatal incident involving two vehicles happened around 10 pm when a car driven by a 30-year-old man crashed into a motorcycle which the victim was riding on.

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu who confirmed the case, said the victim identified as Mohammad Nizam Sabu, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“Investigations found that the car was moving towards Jalan Simpang Tiga during a green light when the victim coming from Jalan Foochow 1, suddenly dashed into the car’s lane.

“Due to the close distance, the driver did not have time to avoid the motorcycle and hit the victim’s motorcycle in the front,” he said, adding that the victim allegedly did not obey the red traffic light and entered the car’s lane.

As a result of the crash, the victim was pronounced dead due to injuries to his head and right leg. The body was later taken to Sarawak General Hospital.
