Motorist dies after ramming roadside tree

SIBU: A motorist was killed when the pickup truck he was driving crashed into a tree at Jalan Sungai Bidut here today.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the incident occurred around 12.30am when the victim was driving alone towards Igan Bridge.

It is believed that the truck had gone out of control, swerved into the opposite lane and crashed into a tree by the roadside.

“The victim, identified as Irwan Christopher Pandong, 41, from Kampung Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya, Kuching, sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash.

“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sibu Hospital,” he said.

The body was taken to Sibu Hospital for post mortem.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
