Traffic policemen inspect motorists during ‘Ops Mabuk’ at Mile 16, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

PADAWAN: A 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol at Mile 16, Jalan Kuching-Serian last Friday (Sept 17).

The motorist was nabbed at a roadblock conducted under ‘Ops Mabuk’ from 8pm to 10.30pm, carried out by traffic police alongside ‘Ops Covid-19’ roadblock personnel.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong revealed that the team detained a man driving a Toyota Land Cruiser at the checkpoint as he was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

Examinations found that the suspect was driving with blood alcohol concentrations exceeding the permitted limit.

The suspect was brought to Padawan traffic police office for further investigation under Section 45A of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of up to two years and a fine up to RM30,000, upon conviction.

Lim said a total of 15 traffic summonses were issued for various offences such as having modified exhaust pipe, among others.
